Busy

To both of my loyal readers. Sad, I know. Sorry I haven't posted in forever. It's been pretty crazy and it seems like nothing very inspiring is happening in the world. Anyway, I have now taken up poetry and have a new medium for expressing myself so you may see some of those on this blog. Oh, and it's thanksgiving break so I have some time on my hands to try and post a little more. Maybe I can really dig for something interesting. Anyway, happy thanksgiving!

College Football Playoff?

The biggest argument for a college football playoff as of yet has come over the last two weeks of football. Many teams fell last week. This week the number two team has lost and as I write the number one team in the nation is on the ropes. The remaining undefeated teams are not exactly impressive and it is conceivable, no, probable that if the number 1 team loses tonight; there will be no undefeated team at the end of the year. How can you say one one loss team is better than 8 or 9 others? Wouldn't it be great if there was a nice little playoff to sort it all out?

The War

I just got done watching the second installment of Ken Burn's series "The War". These shows, which are being aired on pbs, are about World War II. I want to encourage you to toon your tv to pbs this and next week at 8 o'clock to watch "The War". As I said, this series is about World War II. It has been great so far becuase it has done a good job of bringing to light the harsh realities of war, while at the same time telling a great story about what it is to be an American. I strongly encourage you to watch this one.

Skip Prossser

I just got the news that Wake Forest head basketball coach Skip Prosser has passed on. This article at SI.com is a pretty good tribute to the man. Anyway, his death kind of throws life into perspective a little more. The man was only 57 and died of a heart attack. If you really think about it you or I could pass on at any moment. We should make the best of the time God has given us.

To catch a predator

I just watched that dateline show "To Catch a Predator" and it sparked the idea for this post. If you are unfamiliar with this show, please follow this http://www.bookrags.com/wiki/To_Catch_a_Predator link and read up before going on.

As you should have read, to catch a predator is a TV show on NBC devoted to catching sexual predators. Which is a good thing right? I mean, the less predators out there the better. But wait. You have to remember, this is a TV show. Should people really be making money off of peoples perversions? Where do the producers motives lie? Do they sit in their office and say "lets do this because it gets predators off the street" or do the say "Wow the ratings for this show are great, lets do it again.

My brother says "these guys are sickos, this is funny". I agree, I think these men have some serious problems, but are we who sit in our living rooms and derive enjoyment from watching their embarrassing captures any better. Is it right to sit there and not only humiliate but have fun humiliating these guys? In Chris Hansen's blog http://insidedateline.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/07/18/276777.aspx, he says that in the new episodes there is much more interaction between the decoy (a very young woman) and the men. Why? Is there really any point in having more interaction other than to entertain us? Remember the producers sitting in the office?

Finally, I would like to make one more point. I have absolutely no sympathy for the sickos, that is just wrong. But they are not the only ones in the wrong here. The girls who lure these guys over are just as much at fault. If a young girl is going to go online and have a sexually explicit conversation with a man then they are asking for it. These girls have the power to end the conversation right where it is. They don't have to have the conversation and they don't have to give these men their information. Why should the man receive all the blame when the girl basically says come on over and knock me up? That is not right.

I want to stress that what these men are doing is wrong. These are grown men, they should be able to control themselves. But there should be some sort of law concerning the girls role as well, they should not go unpunished. Also, we should not be using this sort of thing as entertainment. This is where it starts. Maybe later we start building coliseums and having death row criminals fight lions. Why not?

Hello

Hi, I'm Matt and I am seventeen years old. I'm new to this whole blogging world so bear with me. I'm creating this blog as a commentary on things that are happening in our world today. Why would you (the reader) be concerned with my opinion on things? Well we all get our world view from somewhere, even the idea of a "world view", you probably got from somewhere. In order to form a good opinion, I feel it is wise to go to as many sources as possible. I am simply providing another source, the mind of a teenager.
